A Power of Attorney Can Be In A Variety of Forms
What is a Power of Attorney? In the simplest terms, it’s a person to whom you give the legal authority to act on your behalf. It can be used in many different situations, such as when you’re unable to make decisions for yourself due to illness or injury.
You can specify what kind of decisions the Power of Attorney can make for you by writing out a power of attorney document and filing it with the Office of Parklin Law. The Parklin Law will keep it on file, and notify your lawyer and family if something happens to you and you can’t make decisions by yourself. But that’s not all there is to know about Powers of Attorney. Here are some common questions answered:
Setting up a power of attorney is a simple and effective way to put your wishes into action should you become unable to make them known. While it can be difficult to think about, the arrangement offers your loved ones peace of mind by allowing them access to your accounts and other assets in the event that you are no longer able to manage them yourself.
If you were asked to serve as a Power of Attorney for someone who is incapable of managing their finances, what would you do? If you haven’t been asked to do this, talk about how you might react if the situation arose.
Power of attorney is essentially a document granting someone else the ability to manage one’s finances and/or health care decisions in the event that one becomes incapacitated. This can include making financial decisions on behalf of another (for example, paying bills), or it can involve giving someone else the authority to make health care decisions for you (such as deciding whether or not you should be taken off life support). The person who has granted power of attorney is called the “principal” and the person who has been given this legal authority is called the “agent.”
